Hello plant lovers! I know you like plants and you always try to learn more for taking care of your plants better. Or you want to buy a plant and start your journey, however, you can't be sure. I understand all these feelings and for eliminating these worries from you, I made an interview with an expert in this field. People also call them the woman who whispers to plants: Fem Güçlütürk! I tried to ask her frequently asked questions and got amazing answers. I'm very excited to share these with you. Before we start, If you've never heard about her, I want to inform you about her more with photos. After that, you will understand why I'm excited to share all this information and answers! Now, let's get to know her better: Since the interview was Turkish, I want to summarize it for English readers to understand. Firstly, I prepared the questions in 3 categories: getting to know her & her business better, learning more about plants & plant care, and lastly more fun and personal questions. In the first part, she talks about herself and about Labofem which is her old planting store. After she started to interest in the plants, she got a demand for the plants, therefore, she opened a store in Istanbul. Before that, she was in the communication sector which helped a lot to start and shape her own Labofem store effectively. She also mentions all the processes of Labofem and how the idea turned into a reality, what people should consider if they have a similar idea. Basically, she believes that her journey was pretty fast but It was because of her conditions. If you don't have a similar foundation, she recommends you to follow processes slowly. In the second part, I asked specific questions such as what people should consider while they choosing a plant or whether every people can take care of a plant. For choosing a plant, she mentions that It is important to know your house well and making sure you are able to provide a proper atmosphere for the plant you like. She always points out that plants are also alive and you are taking responsibility while you are buying a plant. Therefore, in this context, she also indicates that there are two considerations for having a plant. You should love plants or you should have responsibility and awareness. Lastly, I asked her whether she has a plant that she believes It gives a chance to her. She says that I don't have a specific plant in this sense, however, one of my plants starts to shake before an earthquake starts. Therefore, I can say that as a chance maybe :) She also states that she found her paradise on earth and another world is possible. Especially, she points out that if you want to live this kind of life, be aware of your effect on nature and love nature with all components, even the insects or snakes :) Be careful about your footprint on nature. I learned a lot about her with this interview and It gives me another perspective for the environment and our relationship with that. Actually, It is not limited to the interview. In order to learn from her more, I wanted a list of her recommended books that can be good resources for learning more about plants & plant care. I will be listing both Turkish and English books and you can choose to read in which language you feel comfortable. For the book recommendations, she follows a logic for contributing to each other. First, she cares about the understanding of the relationship between the environment and us, then specializing in plants about what plants tell us and their lives. After that, she mentions books about garden and gardening. Lastly, recommends books about a specific type of plants and their features. If you follow this order, she believes that It can be more progressive. I also add links to the books, so you can easily find them online by clicking on their names. Now, let's move on to the books!
If you are interested in house plants and care, she is the best you can find in this field. You can follow her on Instagram as @labofem or reach her Youtube account by clicking here. I hope you like her videos and learn more!
Lastly, I want to thank her again for accepting my interview request. It was a pleasure to meet with her and talk about plants. I do appreciate it.
